What is an IPL Photofacial?
IPL photofacial treatments are a light-based therapy that uses intense pulsed light energy to improve the tone and texture of the skin and reduce the visible signs of aging. Essentially, this skin rejuvenating treatment uses specifically designed light pulses to reduce facial redness, correct sun damage and improve the overall quality of the skin. IPL photofacial treatments can be completed in 30 to 45 minutes and have no downtime associated with them.

What can I expect during a treatment session?
This skin rejuvenating treatment has multiple steps. First, we thoroughly clean the skin and apply a photosensitive medication and allow it to penetrate deep into the skin. Then we use gentle pulses of targeted light therapy to activate the photosensitive medication and destroy damaged skin cells.

IPL Photofacials can be used to correct

  • Rosacea
  • Age spots
  • Sun Damage
  • Freckles
  • Facial redness
  • Enlarged pores
  • Acne

How many treatments will I need?
We typically recommend patients have between three and five IPL treatments spaced three to four weeks apart. Depending on the condition of the skin and the desired results of treatment, some patients may require additional treatment sessions.

Is there any downtime?
While there is no downtime associated with IPL facial treatments, your skin will be extra sensitive to sun exposure. We recommend patients avoid excessive sun exposure following an IPL facial treatment and use additional sun protection when spending time in the sun.

What are the side effects?
You may experience facial redness and tenderness, similar to a mild sunburn, immediately following an IPL facial treatment. Pigmented spots in the treatment area may initially appear darker following a treatment session and will eventually peel or flake off in the days following a treatment session.
